The Creation Story: 7 Biblical Life Lessons for Parents and Children To Apply To Their Daily Lives - DAY 7.

DAY 7 - It is established that on the seventh day God ceased from His work of creation. In doing this, He set a powerful example for us to live by as a guiding principle. Today, in a world that often demands constant activity and productivity, the biblical concept of Sabbath rest can seem counterintuitive to some or even forgotten by others. However, the Sabbath is a vital aspect of our spiritual well-being, a time to reconnect with our Creator and recharge our bodies, minds, spirits and souls. As parents, it should be our mission to instill in our children the importance of finding rest in God and embracing the gift of Sabbath rest, which will nurture their relationship with God and provide a solid foundation for a balanced and fulfilling life.

In this post, we'll explore practical applications to help your family incorporate Sabbath rest into your lives, fostering a deeper connection with God and a healthy approach to the demands of daily life which involves a never-ending cycle of work, school, and activities, leaving very little time for rest and reflection.

Day 7: Finding Rest in the Creator: Embracing God's Gift of Sabbath Rest

Genesis 2:1-3 (WEB) The heavens and the earth were finished, and all their vast array. On the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work of creation which he had done.

Life Lesson: The importance of finding rest in God and embracing the gift of Sabbath.

On the seventh day, God concluded His work of creation, providing us with a powerful model to emulate. The Sabbath is a divine offering made for man by God for our benefit. It is an opportunity for us to take a break, contemplate, and rejuvenate our bodies, minds, and spirits. As parents, our responsibility lies in imparting the value of seeking solace in God and incorporating the blessing of Sabbath rest into our children's lives.

Practical Application:

  1. Set aside regular Sabbath time: Establish a consistent weekly time for your family to pause, rest, and focus on God. This may involve attending church, spending quiet time in prayer, or engaging in other spiritual practices that draw you and your children closer to the Almighty.
  2. Teach the value of rest and reflection: Help your children understand the importance of taking time to rest and reflect on their relationship with God. Discuss how Jesus often withdrew from the crowds to spend time alone in prayer and how they can follow His example.
  3. Engage in family worship: Use your Sabbath time to engage in family worship, including prayer, singing, and reading Scripture together. This will help your children develop a deep appreciation for the beauty and power of corporate worship.
  4. Encourage Sabbath rest in daily life: Teach your children to integrate moments of rest and reflection throughout their day, such as taking a few minutes to pray or meditate on Scripture during a busy day at school or work.

By teaching our children the importance of finding rest in God and embracing the gift of Sabbath rest, we help them develop healthy habits that will serve them well throughout their lives. In doing so, they will learn to prioritize their relationship with God and find peace and strength in His presence, even amidst the busyness of life.
